      BLOGGING SCIENCE STYLE….

Your last day for term you lucky things..think of me correcting all your reports tomorrow!

Today you have the honour of teaching Mrs Lochery how to use the blogs….via ’science’ on the blog site.

The first thing you have to do is go to this site:

http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/

You are from this site to find an article and read it. Once you have read it you are to create a PAGE on your blog site highlighting the main points of the article and then in one or two sentences give an outline of the article. The title of your page is to be the title of your article. Mrs Lochery will then be making a guest appearance to your blog page and reading what you have written.

Have a great holiday guys and eat lots of choccy, except you Lachie, you can eat lots of lollies…lol.

See you in term 4 when you are half way to being a year 8 and 3 weeks off going to the snow..

                   CHOCOLATE BISCUIT WEEK…..MMMMMMMMM

Well this is the week we are baking with the year 12’s. As you have found out with the milo recipe there is an art to writing a recipe. You do need a bit of an introduction, a list of the utensils and ingredients you need and then a step by step set of instructions as to what to do, and then an end sentence as to what to do with it.

You will also have noticed that recipes have a whole metalanguage of their own: tbls, tsp, grams, cups, lbs….you will have to learn a lot of them for next term.

Your task today is to produce a recipe for one of your favourite foods, and it must be something you have to make and have a recipe for, not a lazy bowl of ice-cream!

Google search a recipe and then write up on a page your recipe using all the correct metalanguage and layout. Title your page what your recipe is called, eg. lasagna, fried chicken…

At the end I want you to send me a comment telling me that you are finished and what your recipe is.

Good Morning 7D…

Today we will be working in groups and reading a story. Once you are in your groups you will each be given a task to do throughout reading your story.

Person 1 will be the leader/ predictor

Person 2 will be the questioner

Person 3 will be the summariser

Person 4 the clarifier

You will read the whole story through, complete your roles which will be discussed with you first and then report  back to the class what happened throughout your story. Hopefully we will have time to discuss everyones at the end.

When you have finished can you please post me a comment from your group memeber telling me what you thought of the story and the way it is interactive.

So enjoy and begin reading:

Hi Guys,

Looking at your Blogs some of you are all over the place. You should have finished by now your History of the Olympics sheet and have them PUBLISHED on your blog. Well done to those of you that have and I will assume that you are half way through working on your Toad’s Rock the Olympics newspaper article. For those of you who have finished everything I have put on a new worksheet for you called Athlete Biography  and you should start research and work on that.

So today’s lesson will look like this.

Step 1: If you are behind go to last weeks post titled Monday 12th of May and work from that. (look up the top right hand corner of my blog)

Step 1a) finish and publish History of the Olympics on your blog.

step 1 b) write up your Toad’s Rock the Olympics newspaper article and publish that on your blog.

Step 2. Open up the Athlete Biography work page (top left hand corner of my blog) and start work on that page, the title of that page should be the name of the athlete you are choosing to write about…

Lets not get behind guys…keep up a good pace before you make me pull my hair out!

Monday 12th of May

Posted on May 11th, 2008 in Uncategorized by descotty

Hi Guys,

As you can see I am away!! I have no voice, but unfortunately for you am determined to be back tomorrow!!! lol…

What I want you to do today is to carry on with the History of the Olympics worksheet. From the quick little look I have had some of you are doing really well.

If you have finished this worksheet, and some of you have I want you to come up with a Toad Olympics News report. You are to title your sheet Toads Rock the Olympics, and make up a newsreport as if you were a journalist covering an olympic games being held by toads. You will have to make up events just for toads and tell a funny story about at least one event. Try to come up with an original trophy for the winner too.  Aim for 300 words.

Try to make some of the characters in your story from Toad Heaven, and try to capture some of the environment that toads like to live in. Look at all your banks of words and let your imagination run wild.

 See you tomorrow.

Hi Guys…

Well we are up to Week 4 and look how far you have come. It was great to see so many of your parents at parent teacher and even better to hear that most of them have seen your blogs.

Today we are going to try something new. Instead of me writing your assignment for today on this post we are going to start working from the worksheets I will put up in the top left hand corner.

So today you are to open up the Olympics 1959 style worksheet and follow the prompts…Remember you are responding on a Page not a Post in your own blog.

Limpy Eulogy

Posted on April 20th, 2008 in Uncategorized by descotty

After Limpy escapes the plastic bucket he hides behind a tree to watch everyone in the swap, “…he was looking at Charm and Goliath and Mum and Dad for what was probably the last time. But he could not help it. Afterwards, when he’d wiped his eyes, Limpy saw the family were all crying too. They were gathered at the edge of the swamp with all the other rellies, and everyone was sniffing and dabbing at their eyes with dry bark or furry catterpillars…Limpy was much loved by us all…”

All of Limpy’s family think he is dead and yet we know he is not! He has a ‘virus’ and from here we are not quite sure what happens next. Imagine if this was it…

You have 2 task’s today…

_______________________________________________________________

You are to be either Mum, Dad, Charm, Goliath or Malcolm and prepare a eulogy for Limpy’s funeral.

Think about everything you know about Limpy already and depending which character you are going to be how will you word your speech. For example if you were Charm you might have a few funny brother sister stories to share, if you were Goliath you would talk about everything you ate together, if you were Malcolm you would lie and be sarcastic.

______________________________________________________________

You are to write 100 words for a response and try to include a picture before you publish…

_______________________________________________________________

NEXT you are to write a reply to this blog telling me what you think an ABSTRACT NOUN  is. You may google search the term in order to help you with your definition.

Toad Heaven

Posted on April 15th, 2008 in Uncategorized by descotty

It is time to start putting some good English work on your blogs…

Looking at this post you are complete the task set out.  To do this you are to log onto your own blog and creat a page titled Toad Heaven 1 and then type up your answer.

_______________________________________________________________

Your task

From where you have read up to in Toad Heaven you are to write a paragraph with your predictions as to how you think the novel will end.  I want to see correct spelling of names, capital letters and full sentences with lots of adjectives.

For example, I might write.

When Limpy woke up he realised he had been set free in a whole new exciting world: a national park. All around him was an exotic wilderness, so much better than the dark swamp. He knew at once that he must send for the others so he set out on the muddy track to find some help. A big white seagul was on the dirty path and Limpy asked him to go to the swamp and tell the others the exciting news. As the white seagul was also new to the park he fully agreed, he too thought it was a wonderful place. Flying quickly to the swamp he told the others, all the Rellies thought it sounded unreal and listened intently to the seaguls instructions on how to get there. They all hopped as fast as their little legs could carry them and soon joined Limpy. With a gleaming crown they declared Limpy king of the cane toads and they all lived in the park happily ever after.

See what a difference the adjectives make, if you can’t then re read what I have written without the adjectives.

Once you have written your paragraph you are to let your ‘buddy’ know and then you are to read each others and leave a comment on each others blog. You are to make one comment on the adjectives used and one comment on whether or not you think their prediction will turn out that way or not and why you believe it will or wont.

Homework: I would like to see someone from your home comment on your worksheet please…

7D Rocks Blogdom

Posted on March 12th, 2008 in Uncategorized by descotty

Hello 7D

Welcome to the first official Blog that the College has ever worked with for a class.

We are going to have some great fun in IT lessons, playing with, developing and writing on our Blogs.

Mr S will make guest appearances in our classes to help us along the way as I am new to this myself and we want to make sure we get it right.

First and foremost there are rules…sorry!…but there always is..

  1. Never put your full name on any of the work you do on your Blog or when leaving comments on others, only use your first name and your surname initial, eg. Mary S.
  2. Never put on any photos without a written note from your parents to either myself or Mr S.
  3. You are only to write relevant and correct things, no rubbish, no swearing and no put downs of others.
  4. You are to keep your internet credit up to date or else you will have theory in IT time. This credit is to be put on BEFORE class.
  5. You may leave comments for each other but no negative ones.

You are to enjoy our IT lessons and hopefully learn heaps. By the end of the year you will basically have your portfolio made via Blogging instead of how the other year 7 groups are doing it…this one sounds way more fun…

So lets begin. If you look to your left you will see a ‘Page’ that is titled ‘Worksheets’. Some of your work will be put on there, this week you are to click on the Olympic one and do what is asked, leaving it as a comment for me.

Ms Scott
